ABC News Studios is preparing to air the first documentary special about the UnitedHealthcare CEO murder case, with the broadcast scheduled for Thursday night, according to Variety.

The hour-long program, titled “Manhunt: Luigi Mangione and the CEO Murder — A Special Edition of 20/20,” will be broadcast at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming availability on Hulu the following day.

The documentary will showcase a never-before-heard voice recording of Mangione discussing his Asian travels. The program promises to deliver an in-depth analysis of the incident that captured national attention, examining the methodical killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the subsequent social media phenomenon that elevated the accused killer to cult status among certain groups.

Viewers can expect new revelations about the manhunt, insights into Mangione’s possible motives, and fresh details about evidence found in his possession, including what law enforcement describes as a written admission of guilt criticizing healthcare systems, along with three significant words inscribed on bullet casings.

This documentary marks the fourth production covering the tragic event. Other projects in development include collaborations between Anonymous Content and Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, a documentary from “Amanda Knox” filmmaker Stephen Robert Morse, and Investigation Discovery’s upcoming February release, “Who Is Luigi Mangione?”

The timing of the documentary coincides with recent legal developments, as Manhattan prosecutors have elevated charges against Mangione to include murder as an act of terrorism. District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced that a grand jury has returned an 11-count indictment against the accused, including first-degree murder and terrorism-related murder charges.

If found guilty of all charges, the 26-year-old Mangione faces life imprisonment without parole possibility.
