During Sunday’s “Saturday Night Live 50: The Anniversary Special,” Aubrey Plaza paid a subtle but meaningful tribute to her late husband Jeff Baena through her choice of attire. The “White Lotus” actress, who was introducing musical performers Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard, donned a black pantsuit complemented by a tie-dye shirt – a thoughtful nod to their unique wedding attire.

The significance of her wardrobe choice stems from the couple’s intimate pandemic wedding, where they exchanged vows wearing tie-dye pajamas. Plaza had previously shared details about their special day during a December 2021 appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

“Jeff got really into tie-dyeing during the quarantine,” she said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. “I decided that Jeff and I were going to wear tie-dye pajamas that he had made for us.”

The couple’s creative collaboration extended beyond their personal life, with Plaza and Baena working together on several film projects, including “Spin Me Round,” “The Little Hours,” and “Life After Beth.”

This marked Plaza’s first public appearance since the tragic loss of Baena, who died by suicide at age 47 on January 3. The director was discovered unresponsive in their Los Angeles-area residence by an assistant.

In the aftermath of his passing, Plaza released a joint statement with Baena’s family: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

The actress subsequently deactivated her Instagram account, where her final post had featured her husband. The couple had secretly married in 2020 after more than a decade together, and did not have any children.
