Bill Maher shared his perspective on President Biden’s stance and humorously referenced tech figures attending Trump’s Inauguration, quipping that their presence was aimed at “sticking it to the elitists.”
During the discussion, Republican strategist Erin Perrine criticized what she perceived as hypocrisy in Biden’s position, stating “certainly didn’t mind extreme influence when both the Biden White House and the Biden campaign were pressuring these social media companies to suppress conversations, stories, the Hunter Biden laptop story, people pushing back on COVID that they didn’t like.” Maher acknowledged her point.

The conversation continued with Maher expressing alignment with free speech concerns. He addressed speculation about Mark Zuckerberg’s evolving stance on free expression, acknowledging that some view the tech leader’s position shift skeptically.
After discussing how Zuckerberg revealed pressure from Biden officials regarding censorship, Maher suggested that the Meta CEO’s apparent change might be genuine. He speculated that Zuckerberg’s relatively young age could have influenced his initial decisions, and that he might now be returning to his original free speech inclinations, saying “It is possible, I think, that he’s a fairly young guy and he got taken the first time around and he’s like — because I think his basic instinct to begin with was a free speech guy, and now he’s like, yeah, you know what? I should have gone with my gut.”
