Bill Maher: Biden Can Address Border With ‘Existing Laws’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher strongly criticized President Biden and Republican legislators for their theatrical posturing in the ongoing border crisis dispute, suggesting that their performances deserve an award.

In a panel discussion on Friday night, the topic of immigration’s significance as a major election issue was raised by Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), who pointed out Biden’s vulnerability on the matter among voters.

Maher said, “Immigration is real but the reaction to it is not real. It’s all a bunch of acting. They should be getting an award this awards season.”

He continued, “The Republicans act like they want to solve this, but the Democrats called their bluff. I mean, there is a bill right now that a lot of them, Mitch McConnell and some pretty conservative senators saying this is as good a deal as you’re gonna get. They don’t want it because they don’t want this issue to be solved because they need it as an issue so you can make speeches like the one you just made about ‘working class’ and blah, blah, blah.”

Sununu concurred with Maher’s argument, advocating for the dismissal of all lawmakers on Capitol Hill, saying that every single one of them should be let go.

Sununu said, “But make no mistake about it, Joe Biden has a lot of power to change a lot of policy and affect the immigration issue.”

Maher replied, “That’s true. I was gonna say part two of the acting is Joe Biden saying ‘You know what? If you just give me a new law.’ A new law! The president can fix this, and he already has an existing law. This is all so silly! ‘I need a piece of paper from Congress to deal with the border.’ No, you already have that.”

A significant number of House Republicans are alleging that President Biden and his administration are intentionally sabotaging border security. They are calling on the White House to address the border crisis through executive measures.

Over 60 House Republicans, led by Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), penned a letter to President Biden on Friday, asserting that his administration has purposefully and systematically disregarded border security laws by choosing not to enforce them.

The letter reads, “You can choose to direct your administration to vigorously enforce the laws on the books today, thereby stemming the tide of illegal immigration and protecting our communities. Or you can choose to perpetuate this national security and humanitarian crisis through your unequivocal failure of leadership for the American people.”
