Discussing early polling data from the Trump administration, Maher noted public support for scaling back certain race and gender policies from the previous administration, which many viewed as a return to pragmatic thinking.
However, he pointed out that voters showed disapproval for other actions, particularly the release of January 6 rioters who had assaulted law enforcement officers. During his discussion with Peggy, Maher highlighted how societal changes tend to swing between extremes rather than finding middle ground.
“The pendulum never stops in the middle. DEI, in my view, did go too far. And now, we’re living in this world where, of course, it never stops in the middle. Now we have to go [to] where it’s blamed for everything,” Maher stated.

He concluded his remarks by defending the fundamental purpose of DEI initiatives, emphasizing their role in supporting disadvantaged individuals. Maher also stressed the importance of improving the educational system, suggesting that meaningful reform requires a balanced approach rather than complete rejection of these programs.
