During the weekend in Chicago under Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) administration, at least three individuals lost their lives to gun violence, causing the city’s murder count to exceed 550 for 2024.
According to ABC 7’s coverage, the weekend’s gun violence resulted in ten people being shot, with three incidents proving fatal.

The first deadly incident took place early Saturday, just after midnight, when gunfire erupted at a residence located in East 67th Street’s 1700 block. A 23-year-old male victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.
Later that morning, around 4:32 a.m., another deadly shooting occurred in Kingston Avenue’s 8400 block. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to a hospital where medical staff pronounced him deceased.
19-year-old Keyonce Gladney was mųrdered on February 25 in Pottawattomie Park, Chicago.
Her 16-year-old assailant was arrested Tuesday but his identity won’t be released.

The weekend’s final fatal shooting occurred Sunday morning in a South Escanaba Avenue alley. At approximately 9:15 a.m., a 48-year-old man was struck by gunfire. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he later died from his wounds.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times’ tracking system, these recent fatalities have pushed the city’s homicide total to 551 for 2024, surpassing the grim milestone of 550 murders for the year.
