Comedian thinks beautiful wife too good for him

John Mulaney expressed genuine disbelief about his marriage to Olivia Munn during a recent conversation with Page Six. The comedian readily acknowledged feeling like he’s dating well above his station, responding with enthusiasm when asked if he felt he was “punching above his weight.”

“One thousand percent. [She is] wildly, wildly out of my league,” he admitted to us Monday at the Broadway opening of “All In: Comedy About Love.”

“She’s somehow with this working comedian,” he shared, adding that she could instead be with his co-star Richard Kind, whom he playfully described as “a magnet.”

The couple’s journey to marriage was unconventional. After quietly exchanging vows in July, their union came two and a half years after welcoming their son Malcolm. Their relationship began in May 2021, following Mulaney’s rehabilitation for substance abuse issues.

In a surprising revelation, Munn previously shared that their relationship wasn’t officially established when she discovered her pregnancy. Initially, they considered co-parenting from separate coasts before deciding to raise Malcolm together, making this decision shortly before his arrival in November 2021.

The couple’s family expanded further when they welcomed their daughter Méi through surrogacy in September. This addition came during a challenging time, as Munn had recently disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in March.

Despite his busy family life, Mulaney has returned to Broadway in a production written by his former “SNL” colleague Simon Rich. Speaking about their collaboration, Mulaney expressed deep admiration: “Simon is the only genius I’ve ever worked with. Working with him back at ‘SNL’ was just the greatest creative time, being up with him until 4 or 5 in the morning just laughing so hard at something that was going to be cut at dress rehearsal.”

The show’s opening night concluded with a star-studded celebration at Carmine’s, attended by celebrities including Jon Hamm, Steve Martin, Stephen Colbert, Martin Short, Cecily Strong, and Tom Hanks. The group enjoyed the restaurant’s signature meatballs and family-style pasta dishes.
