Donald Trump’s agenda

Representative Andy Harris, a Republican from Maryland, conveyed to Newsmax on Friday that Congress should avoid the perplexity experienced in recent weeks and promptly elect a Speaker of the House, enabling legislators to commence their work swiftly in January.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote next week on whether to re-elect House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, or choose a new individual for the role.

Harris stated that the House Freedom Caucus aims “to ensure that the House is positioned to deliver on the Trump agenda to the American people. That’s the sole objective.”

“If we can achieve structural changes or modifications under the current leadership that would reflect that, that’s acceptable. If not, we should consider what’s best for the country in terms of, again, advancing Donald Trump’s agenda,” he added.

Harris highlighted “the confusion over the last two weeks,” when House Republicans rejected a bipartisan spending bill just days before the deadline to avert a government shutdown.

The Maryland Republican further noted that this incident “kind of indicated that we’re not quite there yet at a position where we’re going to be able to do that. But again, you know, we’re every single day we’re talking about how we get to where we need to be in the beginning of January. The American people can’t wait … we have to hit the ground running, overturning the Biden agenda.”

Harris also mentioned that the election of a new House speaker likely won’t necessitate multiple rounds of voting as it did previously, stating that “the dynamics are different in a couple ways.”

“Now Donald Trump is going to have a say in who the next speaker is,” Harris said, “and of course we have the extreme timeframe limitation of January 6th for certification, which can of course extend a couple more days.”
