On Friday’s CNN broadcast, Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) expressed his belief that the Democratic Party often comes across as arrogant and unwelcoming of differing viewpoints. He stated, “We’re a party that’s very arrogant. If you don’t agree with us 100% with our dogmatic views on certain issues, then you’re not only wrong, you’re a bad person. That’s the attitude that I think a lot of American voters are hearing from Democrats, or that’s what they perceive. We’ve got to change that.”

Moulton acknowledged the Republican Party’s “vicious attacks” against transgender individuals, asserting that Democrats aim to protect minorities. However, he lamented the party’s inability to engage in productive debates on policies that could sway public opinion in their favor. “We can’t even engage in a debate about the policies that we can win on, that we can actually win over the American people to support our position…even just to win this debate,” he said.

Later in the interview, Moulton emphasized the Democrats’ superior economic policies, claiming they would effectively combat inflation, in contrast to the inflationary impacts of Trump’s tax cuts and tariffs. Nonetheless, he expressed perplexity over the public’s greater trust in Republicans on economic matters, attributing this disconnect to the Democrats’ perceived preaching rather than listening approach. “We’re a party that’s very arrogant. If you don’t agree with us 100% with our dogmatic views on certain issues, then you’re not only wrong, you’re a bad person. That’s the attitude that I think a lot of American voters are hearing from Democrats, or that’s what they perceive. We’ve got to change that,” he reiterated.

Moulton acknowledged that the Democratic leadership recognizes this issue, though he clarified that he is not an expert on transgender issues when asked if the party needs to modify its message or policies. However, he advocated for an open debate on whether policy changes are necessary.
