Democrat Attempts To Delay Voting By Pulling Fire Alarm

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) urged the Department of Justice on Saturday to pursue legal action against Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) for triggering a fire alarm and disrupting official proceedings.

Greene posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulled the fire alarm in the Cannon building this afternoon and interrupted the official proceedings of the House as Republicans worked to keep the government open.”

She continued, “I’m calling on the DOJ to prosecute him using the same law they used to prosecute J6 defendants for interfering with an official proceeding. The Democrats literally will do anything to shut OUR government down because billions aren’t going to their favorite country: Ukraine.”

Bowman is presently facing an investigation for purportedly triggering a fire alarm during the Saturday votes concerning a resolution on U.S. government spending. His alleged intent was to disrupt the ongoing proceedings and postpone a vote.

On Saturday afternoon, the House approved a 45-day temporary measure.

Capitol Police have made public a photograph showing Bowman pulling the fire alarm.

Bowman’s chief of staff, Sarah Iddrissu, posted on X, “Congressman Bowman did not realize he would trigger a building alarm as he was rushing to make an urgent vote. The Congressman regrets any confusion.”

As reported by Axios, Bowman informed journalists that he believed pulling the alarm would open the door.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called the incident “serious” and advocated for an investigation into Bowman’s actions. Several other Republican lawmakers criticized Bowman for his conduct as well.

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) wrote, “I’m hearing Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was CAUGHT ON CAMERA pulling the fire alarm in a House Office Building to delay the CR vote. IF TRUE: he should be charged with obstructing an official proceeding, which is a FELONY. As a former Sheriff, I’d happily slap the cuffs on him.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) also voiced her criticism of Bowman. She said, “If true, this is a crime that carries up to six months in jail. While Republicans are trying to be productive, Democrats are pulling fire alarms in the halls of Congress.”
