House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries unveiled a comprehensive ten-point strategy designed to counter President Donald Trump’s America First initiatives, despite Trump’s decisive electoral victory on these very platforms.
The Democratic leadership’s latest approach emerges amid their struggle to comprehend Trump’s victory and develop effective counter-strategies. Their previous response included seeking psychological support to process Trump’s initial week in office and attempting to update their long-standing rhetoric about Republican prejudices.

While moving away from previous accusations of racism and bigotry, Jeffries’ new strategy characterizes Republican policies as “far-right extremism.” His plan notably focuses on using the March 14 federal funding deadline as leverage to prevent Trump from redirecting appropriated funds. “Trump’s agenda must be choked off in the upcoming government funding bill, if not sooner,” he stated.
The strategy includes proposed legislation to restrict DOGE’s Treasury Department activities, where DOGE and Elon Musk are conducting federal spending audits. This comes as reports show the Biden administration’s $236 billion in improper payments across 71 federal programs in 2023, according to the Government Accountability Office.

“We have to bring the reputation of the FBI β we have to bring the fact of the FBI β back to what it could be β¦ even better than what it ever was,” Trump told reporters on Monday. “Because who would have thought that the FBI could have been corrupted like they were corrupted?”
