A recent social media post circulating on X falsely claims the New York Times published an article titled “Why the Glorification of Luigi Mangione Is Inherently Anti-Israel.” This fabricated content appears to be an altered version of a genuine article the newspaper published.
The manipulated image shows what looks like a New York Times opinion piece with a subtitle stating “The shooting of Brian Thompson marks a new era of rage for this country.” The post was shared with the caption “Ok now you know this dudes innocent #LuigiMangione.”
Confused CNN: “Why are tons of people offering to pay Luigi’s legal costs”
Mangione’s Attorney: “Idk.. but Supreme Court says billionaires can give tons of money to candidates and that’s free speech. maybe these people are exercising their free speech”

This misinformation surfaces amid recent events involving Luigi Mangione, who allegedly shot United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The case has connections to another incident where Briana Boston, 42, was arrested for allegedly threatening a health insurance company, reportedly saying “you people are next” and “delay, deny, depose” – phrases similar to those written on bullets allegedly used by Mangione.

The actual New York Times article was titled “What the Glorification of Luigi Mangione Reveals About America.” A thorough search of the newspaper’s archive confirms no article exists with the anti-Israel headline.
A New York Times spokesperson explicitly confirmed to Check Your Fact via email that “The New York Times did not publish this article or headline.”
