A luxury yacht reportedly chartered by renowned music producer Metro Boomin caught fire and sank in the Miami River during the early hours of Sunday morning while docked near a popular Miami strip club.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. when the 95-foot vessel, which had just arrived at Booby Trap On The River, erupted in flames merely half an hour after docking, according to local news reports.

Michael Marhefka, the strip club’s director of security, described how staff members quickly responded to help evacuate roughly 10 individuals from the vessel, including Metro Boomin and five crew members.

“The boat pulled up and they were on the boat maybe 30 minutes at the dock and we noticed what sounded like fire alarms going off,” Marhefka told the local outlet. “When we looked at the boat we did see some smoke inside the boat. We made the determination to evacuate the boat immediately.”

The situation escalated after the evacuation, with flames consuming the vessel and requiring a substantial emergency response. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue deployed over 30 units, combining both land-based teams and rescue boats, to combat the blaze around 4 a.m.

Emergency responders faced significant challenges in extinguishing the fire due to the yacht’s substantial size and fuel capacity. The spectacular nature of the blaze attracted numerous spectators, with one unnamed witness telling NBC 6 that the fire was “unexpected” and unlike anything she had previously witnessed. Another onlooker expressed fear over the fire’s magnitude.

Despite efforts to save the vessel, it eventually submerged into the Miami River. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Following the fire, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue implemented measures to contain potential environmental impact. MDFR spokesperson Nicholas DiGiacomo explained their use of specialized equipment, stating, “This strong mesh-like sleeve encases a highly absorbent material that soaks up oil and surface sheen.”

Officials have initiated an investigation to determine the fire’s cause. Metro Boomin, known for his collaborations with prominent artists including The Weekend, Young Thug, Future, and Travis Scott, has not yet commented on the incident.
