A tragic incident in Dublin’s city centre early Saturday morning has left one man dead and another seriously wounded following a stabbing on South Anne Street.

According to RTE, Ireland’s national broadcaster, the violence erupted during a confrontation between two separate groups of individuals.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that one victim was transported to St James’s Hospital but did not survive his injuries. The second victim remains under medical care with serious injuries.

The authorities have not released the names of those involved in the incident, and no suspects have been identified at this time.

In response to these events, Sinn Féin MP Matt Carthy expressed deep concerns about public safety in Dublin’s city centre, highlighting what he described as insufficient police presence on the streets.

“Bring forward a plan to make Dublin, our capital city, safe for all those who live, work, do business there as well as for visitors to the city,” Carthy urged Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.

This latest violent episode follows a recent mass stabbing incident in central Dublin that occurred less than a week ago.

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Brazilian national in connection with the previous attack. The accused is scheduled to appear before the court via video link on February 18th.
