In a heartwarming moment at the 2025 Grammy Awards, singers Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo shared an embrace that appeared to signal the end of their rumored long-standing tension.
During the ceremony, attendees witnessed Rodrigo approach Carpenter’s table, where the two engaged in what seemed to be a friendly conversation before sharing a hug. The interaction between the 25-year-old “Espresso” performer and 21-year-old “Good 4 U” artist sparked excitement among their followers.
Social media erupted with enthusiastic responses, with one fan commenting, “OMG THEY’RE GOING TO WORK IT OUT ON THE REMIX!” Another expressed, “the world is HEALING. I used to pray for moments like these.” A third fan declared, “Not even exaggerating when I say this is the greatest peace treaty in history.”

The alleged friction between the former Disney Channel stars began in 2019 when Rodrigo started dating her “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” castmate Joshua Bassett. The following year, Bassett, now 24, was seen with Carpenter at both a Black Lives Matter demonstration in June and a casual lunch outing in August, according to People.
When Rodrigo released “Drivers License” in 2021, many speculated the lyrics referenced Bassett’s relationship with Carpenter: “And you’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt,” Rodrigo sings on the track. “She’s so much older than me / She’s everything I’m insecure about.”

Shortly after, Carpenter appeared to respond with her song “Skin,” which included the lyrics: “Maybe we could’ve been friends / If I met you in another life / Maybe then we could pretend / There’s no gravity in the words we write / Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe blonde was the only rhyme / The only rhyme.” However, Carpenter later denied the song targeted Rodrigo in a post that has since been removed.
Following her split from Bassett in 2021, Carpenter was linked to Shawn Mendes in 2023 and later dated Barry Keoghan for a year until late 2024. Rodrigo’s romantic history includes relationships with Adam Faze and Zack Bia before her current relationship with Louis Partridge, which began in October 2023.
The evening proved especially successful for Carpenter, who claimed victories in both the best pop solo performance category for “Espresso” and best pop vocal album for “Short n’ Sweet.”
