CNN Political Commentator and former Obama Adviser Van Jones expressed concern over the potential dismissal of Gen. CQ Brown as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arguing that the only apparent criticism against Brown appears to be unfounded accusations of being “woke” and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

During his appearance on CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” Jones emphasized that he had thoroughly investigated potential reasons for breaking the long-standing tradition of military leadership appointments. After extensive research and consultations, he found no substantial evidence of misconduct, scandals, or questionable decisions that would warrant such an unprecedented move.

“If you’re going to break with this norm and have a purge of the top military, you want to identify what did that General do that was inappropriate? What was the scandal? What was the bad hire? What? And there is literally nothing. I’ve been looking all day, calling around, and it’s basically just this slander that he’s woke and DEI. Well, if you are the head of a military that is multiracial and multicultural and you want it to be cohesive, you need to have policies in place to help that happen.”

Jones suggested that the situation could be particularly concerning if it serves as a pretext for installing military leaders who might prioritize personal loyalty over proper military conduct. He noted the importance of maintaining established traditions, particularly in military leadership, and called on his conservative colleagues to address this departure from conventional practices.

The former Obama adviser concluded his remarks by highlighting the apparent contradiction between conservative principles and this break from tradition, stating that he anticipates hearing perspectives from his conservative counterparts on this matter.
