Hamas released the remains of four Israeli hostages on Thursday, revealing the tragic fate of victims from their October 7 attack on Israel. Among the deceased were Shiri Bibas, her children Ariel and Kfir, and 83-year-old Oded Lifshitz.
The loss of Kfir Bibas, who was just nine months old when kidnapped, making him the youngest hostage, has particularly devastated the nation. Hamas claimed the victims perished during Israeli airstrikes alongside their guards, though they provided no supporting evidence for these assertions.
“Our hearts — the hearts of an entire nation — lie in tatters,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in a statement. “On behalf of the State of Israel, I bow my head and ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness for not protecting you on that terrible day. Forgiveness for not bringing you home safely.”

In a macabre display in Gaza, the terrorist organization arranged four black coffins on a stage, surrounded by propaganda banners. One particularly provocative banner depicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a vampire figure. The scene drew thousands of spectators, including numerous armed militants who applauded as Red Cross vehicles transported the remains to Israeli forces.
The October 7 attack resulted in Hamas taking 251 hostages, including approximately 30 children, while simultaneously killing around 1,200 people, predominantly civilians. Under current negotiations, Hamas has agreed to release six living hostages this Saturday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, with plans to return four more bodies next week as part of the ceasefire’s initial phase.
Following these exchanges, Hamas will still hold approximately 60 male hostages, with estimates suggesting half of them are no longer alive.
