Hamas announced Thursday it would reverse its earlier decision and continue releasing Israeli hostages according to the terms of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Earlier, the militant group had stated it would halt the release of hostages “until further notice” within the framework of the six-week truce, claiming Israel had violated the original terms.
This prompted Israel to threaten resuming military operations if Hamas failed to release the next group of hostages as planned for Saturday.
The hostages who returned from Hamas-ISIS captivity came back in a horrific condition.
They describe severe physical, psychological, and sexual abuse at the hands of their Hamas captors, Islamic Jihad, and residents of the Gaza Strip.

The United States administration also issued warnings about consequences should Hamas not fulfill its obligations under the agreement.
Following discussions with mediators, Hamas indicated they had received guarantees that would address their concerns about the deal’s implementation.
“Accordingly, Hamas confirms its continued position to implement the agreement in accordance with what was signed, including the exchange of prisoners according to the specified timetable,” the group said.

The next exchange is scheduled for Saturday, with Hamas expected to release three Israeli captives in return for multiple Palestinian prisoners.
Currently, 73 hostages remain in Gaza, with 17 of them scheduled for release during the initial phase of the agreement.
Some of these hostages are no longer alive, while others would remain in captivity until a subsequent phase of the agreement is implemented.
