Harris ignores fired staff while celebrating holiday success

Failed vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris displayed questionable holiday spirit during her address at the DNC holiday reception on December 15, delivering remarks that seemed particularly insensitive given recent events.

The timing of Harris’s speech was especially problematic considering the DNC had recently terminated numerous campaign staffers following her unsuccessful presidential campaign, leaving many without employment just before the holiday season.

The situation became so dire that the DNC union had to resort to crowdfunding to support the displaced workers. Their GoFundMe page stated: “We are heartbroken to see our colleagues — who dedicated countless hours to electing Democrats up and down the ballot — depart under these circumstances, and we are furious with DNC leadership for failing to provide severance to those affected.”

The fundraiser successfully reached its $25,000 goal by December 16, but Harris’s subsequent remarks at the holiday reception appeared disconnected from the reality facing her former staff.

“This holiday season, like any time of the year, let us really be conscious of all the blessings we have,” Harris said, according to Fox News. “Let us celebrate the blessings we have; let us celebrate and advance the blessings we have yet to create. And let us always remember our country is worth fighting for, and our spirit will not be defeated.”

Her speech continued with similar messaging, seemingly ignoring the November 5 electoral defeat. “And hear me when I say this, that spirit that fuels the countless hours and days and months of work that you have put into this, that spirit,” Harris continued. “It can never be defeated. Our spirit is not defeated. We are not defeated.”

The vice president persisted with her message: “Let’s be clear about that. We are strong. We are clear about why we are in this. And because you’re here right now. I say again, thank you because not only are you clear about all of that, you’re willing to put in the hard work and that work must continue.”

The disconnect between Harris’s triumphant rhetoric and the reality of unpaid former staffers highlighted a growing concern about the Democratic leadership’s financial management and treatment of their workforce. While the party has historically positioned itself as champions of working people, recent actions suggest a departure from these values.

The vice president’s celebratory tone and emphasis on persistence, despite the campaign’s inability to provide for its own staff, struck a particularly discordant note during the holiday season, traditionally a time for demonstrating care and consideration for others.
