The House GOP Judiciary Committee faced intense criticism after posting a “Rick-roll” prank regarding the Epstein files on their X account, ultimately leading to the post’s removal.

During the initial phase of the Epstein files release, when conservative influencers received heavily redacted documents, the committee’s account shared a post stating “#BREAKING: EPSTEIN FILES RELEASED” with a link directing users to Rick Astley’s famous “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video on YouTube.

The post quickly garnered a Community Note alerting users about its deceptive nature, and sparked outrage across political lines, with many condemning the committee for trivializing a serious case involving minor sex trafficking.

Conservative filmmaker Robby Starbuck expressed his disapproval, stating, “This has to be one of the dumbest mistakes by our side in recent memory. Sex trafficking is not an opportunity to rick roll someone with a music video. I have friends in Congress who are pissed this was sent out. I’m glad they deleted it but this can never happen again.”

Laura Loomer, a steadfast Trump supporter and independent journalist, demanded accountability with a direct call to “Fire the person who tweeted this.”

While the controversial post has been deleted, it remains accessible through archived versions. The incident occurred against the backdrop of the “Epstein Files” distribution to influencers, which largely contained previously available information with substantial redactions.
