House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) has issued subpoenas to five Biden administration officials as part of an ongoing investigation into the executive order known as “Bidenbucks.” This order, signed by President Joe Biden, instructs federal agencies to promote voter registration, which has raised alarm among Republicans about potential election manipulation.
The subpoenas, delivered on Wednesday, require sworn testimony from officials after their agencies failed to comply with previous requests for documents. In June, Steil sought information on how Executive Order 14019 is being implemented but received no response. In July, he sent follow-up letters to the Departments of Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Justice, and Agriculture, yet the requested documents were still not provided.
Steil expressed his concerns, stating, “Americans deserve transparency and trust in their elections.” He accused the Biden administration of obstructing a lawful investigation and warned that the use of federal agencies to influence elections is a serious issue that must be addressed.
The term “Bidenbucks” has been used by critics to draw a parallel with “Zuckerbucks,” the funds that Mark Zuckerberg allegedly used to boost Democratic voter turnout in the 2020 election. Steil’s investigation aims to uncover whether similar practices are being employed under Biden’s directive.
As the 2024 election approaches, Steil and other House Republicans are determined to hold the administration accountable. They argue that transparency is essential to maintaining public trust in the electoral process and that any attempts to manipulate voter turnout through federal resources must be exposed.
The subpoenas mark a significant escalation in the investigation, reflecting the GOP’s commitment to ensuring that elections are conducted fairly and without undue influence from federal agencies. Steil’s actions underscore the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the American voting system.
