House Republicans Consider Exposing Smith’s Prosecutors

The House Judiciary Committee has hinted at the possibility of naming members of special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutorial team. A spokesperson said “everything is on the table” as Republicans investigate Smith’s handling of cases against President Donald Trump.

Following Trump’s reelection, the committee sent Smith a letter demanding he preserve all records tied to his investigations. The letter warned against erasing evidence and accused Smith’s office of avoiding transparency.

Reports that Smith’s team had anticipated Trump’s victory further fueled Republican concerns. “We are worried that the Office of Special Counsel may attempt to purge relevant records,” the letter stated, highlighting the need for strict oversight.

Smith has led two high-profile cases involving Trump, including charges related to the 2020 election and classified documents. The latter case was dismissed earlier this year after a judge ruled Smith’s appointment unlawful.

Insiders told CNN that Smith intends to keep his investigations going as long as possible. One source said Smith is unlikely to end his work voluntarily, calling him determined to pursue legal action despite Trump’s win.

Smith recently asked Judge Tanya Chutkan to pause one of the cases against Trump. His request was framed as an effort to evaluate next steps under “unprecedented” circumstances. Republicans remain focused on holding Smith accountable, vowing to leave no stone unturned.
