“Anora” dominated the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony, claiming victories in five out of its six nominated categories, including the prestigious best picture award.
The film’s creative force, Sean Baker, made history by securing four Oscar wins in a single evening – for film editing, directing, original screenplay, and best picture – becoming only the second individual to achieve this feat after Walt Disney’s legendary accomplishment.
The evening also marked a career milestone for up-and-coming actress Mikey Madison, who surprised industry observers by winning best actress for her portrayal of the main character, surpassing anticipated winner Demi Moore.

Though the acclaimed independent film hasn’t reached streaming platforms yet, viewers still have options to experience this cinematic triumph online.
The critically acclaimed dark comedy chronicles the story of Anora (Madison), who works as both a dancer and sex worker. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she falls into a passionate relationship with Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn), whose parents are influential Russian oligarchs. After the couple’s impromptu marriage in Las Vegas, Vanya’s parents dispatch their employees to terminate the union, triggering a frenzied 24-hour pursuit across Brooklyn.
The film’s journey through awards season has been remarkable, beginning with its Palme d’Or victory at Cannes and continuing with wins at the BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice Awards, and a trio of Independent Spirit Awards.
