Jean-Pierre Blames Republicans For Congressman Getting Carjacked

During Tuesday’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed that Republicans are to blame for the armed carjacking that Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) experienced in Washington, D.C.

On Monday night, Cuellar was carjacked by three armed men. While the Democrat congressman is a black belt, he explained that he had understood the odds and chose to cooperate with the assailants. He was not injured during the incident and his car was later recovered.

Jean-Pierre was asked about the incident by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy after she claimed that Republicans were responsible for skyrocketing crime across the U.S. — especially in Washington, D.C.

Doocy then asked her a follow-up question about how the GOP was to blame for crime in a deep-blue area.

“I know you’re going to follow up on that,” Jean-Pierre said, seeing that Doocy was poised to respond. “What’s your question?”

“Well, the first follow-up would be, how are you going to blame Republicans for [Cuellar being carjacked]? Isn’t D.C. run by a bunch of Democrats?” the Fox News reporter asked.

“I’m going to speak to what the president has done, right? The president has been very straightforward about what he has done to make sure that communities are safe,” Jean-Pierre responded. “American Rescue Plan, not one Republican in Congress voted for it. Not one.”

“There were billions of dollars in that plan, in that act, to make sure communities across the country got funding that they could indeed hire more police officers so that they can keep their communities safe,” she added. “Republicans had nothing to do with that. They were not involved in that. They decided not to vote on the American Rescue Plan. That’s just a fact.”

Despite Jean-Pierre’s claims, the American Rescue Plan was passed in the House without Republican support and signed into law in March 2021. Therefore, as The Daily Wire notes in reporting on the issue, “Republican opposition to the plan had no possible impact on what was done with the funding in a city entirely controlled by Democrats.”
Doocy also asked Jean-Pierre a hypothetical question about the effects of President Joe Biden’s policies.

“So, if President Biden’s policies are helping bring crime down, would he be comfortable with somebody borrowing his Corvette and parking it on the street overnight in southeast D.C.?” the Fox News reporter asked.

Jean-Pierre refused to answer the question, instead stating that she won’t “get into hypotheticals” and proceeding to tout Biden’s supposedly successful policies as president.
