Judge punishes Giuliani for failing to share evidence

In a significant development, Rudy Giuliani’s attorney has claimed that the Biden administration’s Justice Department and New York City’s legal system are collaborating to wage “lawfare” against his client.

A court found Giuliani in contempt on Monday after he failed to adequately respond to information requests related to the $148 million defamation judgment awarded to two Georgia election workers.

“Today my client @RudyGiuliani was unjustly held in contempt of Court. Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, did not get what they wanted on behalf of their clients, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss,” attorney Joe Cammarata announced on X.

“They wanted Mayor Giuliani not to be able to defend himself at the trial on January 16, 2025, but the Judge did not grant that relief, as it would have been the death penalty in this case. You did not see the Plaintiffs in Court probably because this case is not about them. This case is about lawfare and the weaponization of the legal system in New York City.”

The contempt ruling came from Judge Lewis J. Liman following Giuliani’s second day of testimony at a hearing. The hearing was initiated after the election workers’ legal team reported Giuliani’s inadequate compliance with evidence requests over recent months.

In his assessment, Cammarata drew parallels between the New York state criminal case against President-elect Donald Trump and the civil proceedings against Giuliani.

“Mayor Giuliani should get a fair hearing and trial just like President Trump should have but did not,” Cammarata wrote. “The cases against President Trump and Mayor Giuliani are very similar – it’s the left wing Democrats trying to use liberal Judges in New York to win when they should lose on the merits.”

“The Judge read an extensive decision on the record, which clearly was not decided at the close of this case, rather pre-determined and written before Mayor Giuliani’s testimony concluded and oral arguments rendered.”

Cammarata highlighted connections between the Willkie Farr & Gallagher law firm and Hunter Biden, noting that one member had served as associate counsel in the Obama administration. He expressed little surprise at the outcome, though pointed out that the law firm didn’t achieve their desired result.

During the hearing, Giuliani initially appeared with an American flag backdrop, which he explained was for his internet program, but was instructed by the judge to switch to a plain background. At one point, he displayed his grandfather’s pocket watch, indicating his willingness to surrender it.

The former mayor faced a December 20 deadline for submitting evidence to help Judge Liman determine whether Giuliani could maintain his Palm Beach, Florida, condominium as a residence or if it should be relinquished as a vacation property, with the trial scheduled for later this month.
