Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secured a narrow victory in the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, with a 14-13 vote advancing his nomination as Health and Human Services Secretary under President Donald Trump.
The pivotal moment came when Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) declared his support following intensive discussions with Kennedy and White House officials over the weekend, acknowledging Vice President JD Vance’s role in securing the nomination.
“I’ve had very intense conversations with Bobby and the White House over the weekend and even this morning,” he wrote, signaling that Vice President JD Vance was involved in pushing Kennedy across the finish line in the committee.

“I want to thank VP JD specifically for his honest counsel. With the serious commitments I’ve received from the administration and the opportunity to make progress on the issues we agree on like healthy foods and a pro-American agenda, I will vote yes,” the senator added.
President Trump voiced his support before the vote, stating: “20 years ago, Autism in children was 1 in 10,000. NOW IT’S 1 in 34. WOW! Something’s really wrong. We need BOBBY!!!” he said. Thank You! DJT”
During his committee hearing, Kennedy addressed criticism of his approach, defending his willingness to challenge conventional wisdom. He shared his daily practice of prayer, seeking divine guidance to combat the chronic disease epidemic affecting America’s children.

Kennedy emphasized the urgency of addressing America’s health crisis, pointing to alarming statistics about Medicaid spending increases and the nation’s unprecedented chronic disease burden compared to other countries.
The hearing included a notable exchange with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who questioned Kennedy about controversial baby clothing slogans related to vaccination.
With the committee’s approval secured, Kennedy’s nomination now proceeds to the full Senate for final confirmation.
