Leo takes private jet while LA burns

As devastating wildfires ravage Los Angeles, forcing more than 100,000 residents to evacuate, climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio has opted for a private jet escape to Mexico, seemingly at odds with his environmental advocacy message.

The Academy Award recipient, accompanied by his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, was observed departing for Cabo San Lucas while his home city grappled with the intensifying fire crisis, according to Daily Mail reporting.

The founder of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which has directed over $80 million toward climate change and sustainability initiatives, appears to be maintaining his pattern of carbon-intensive travel despite his public stance on environmental issues.

“Leonardo DiCaprio and his model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti were spotted arriving in Mexico on a private jet amid the devastating LA fires.

Given Leo’s reputation as an environmental advocate, it raised eyebrows that he would take a private jet during such a major natural disaster affecting his own community.

As the founder of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, the Oscar winner, 50, has funded over $80 million in grants focused on climate change and sustainability.

Dressed in a casual hoodie and baseball cap, Leo appeared unfazed as he stepped off the plane alongside Ceretti, 26, who wore an all-black ensemble.

The couple, who have been linked since 2023, were accompanied by Leo’s father George DiCaprio and George’s wife Peggy Ann Farrar.”

This isn’t the first instance of DiCaprio’s travel choices conflicting with his environmental messaging. In 2016, he drew criticism for utilizing private air travel to collect an environmental award, making an 8,000-mile round journey between Cannes and New York.

The Telegraph previously documented DiCaprio’s frequent private jet usage in 2014, noting six flights between New York and Los Angeles within a six-week period.

While DiCaprio has made some attempts to reduce his environmental impact, such as reportedly choosing commercial flights for the 2021 COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, his continued use of luxury yachts and private jets remains at odds with his public advocacy for reducing carbon emissions.

The contrast between his lifestyle choices and environmental messaging highlights an ongoing pattern of behavior that critics view as characteristic of Hollywood’s elite environmental advocates who promote climate action while maintaining carbon-intensive lifestyles.
