The family’s lawsuit specifically points to former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s actions, claiming he authorized illegal surveillance of Malcolm X and deliberately weakened his security detail, leaving the civil rights leader vulnerable to attack. They maintain Hoover had prior knowledge of the impending assassination.
The legal filing further alleges that federal agents manipulated witnesses with incorrect information and deliberately concealed evidence about their knowledge of the assassination plot. The family seeks damages exceeding $100 million through this lawsuit.
