Most Americans Think Biden Worse Than Trump, Obama

A recent poll reveals Americans hold a significantly negative view of President Joe Biden’s performance compared to his predecessors Donald Trump and Barack Obama. The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey shows only about 25% of Americans rate Biden’s presidency as either “good” or “great,” with less than 10% choosing the latter designation.

The results are particularly concerning for Biden, as even fellow Democrats express lukewarm sentiments about his leadership. This stands in stark contrast to Trump’s ratings upon leaving office in 2021, when roughly one-third of Americans viewed his presidency favorably, with approximately 20% rating it as “great,” according to AP-NORC polling.

The comparison to Obama’s departure is even more striking. When the previous Democratic president concluded his second term, about half of Americans rated his presidency as either “good” or “great.”

Among Democratic Party supporters, Biden’s ratings tell a story of mediocrity. Only about 10% consider his presidency “great,” while roughly 40% rate it as “good,” and a similar percentage view it as “average.”

The survey highlights specific areas where Biden’s leadership has fallen short in public opinion. More than half of respondents indicate Biden has negatively impacted critical issues such as living costs, immigration policies, and the Israeli-Palestinian situation. In contrast, only about 20% perceive positive contributions in these areas.

Despite his administration’s substantial military aid to Ukraine, Americans predominantly view Biden’s handling of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict negatively. His approach to Israel’s war with Hamas has particularly disappointed younger voters, with merely 10% of Americans under 30 approving of his impact on the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

The economic impact of Biden’s presidency on American families also draws criticism. Approximately 40% of respondents report their financial situation has deteriorated under Biden’s leadership, while only 25% note improvement. This represents a marked decline from both Trump’s and Obama’s presidencies, where only about 25% of Americans reported being worse off at the conclusion of their terms.
