Following Trump’s historic victory in the 2024 presidential election, MSNBC has experienced a dramatic decline in viewership numbers. FOX Business host Elizabeth MacDonald reported on MSNBC’s significant viewership decline. The Nielsen ratings reveal substantial drops across all major MSNBC programs when comparing October 30 to November 8.

The data shows Morning Joe’s first hour declining by 39.6%, while its second hour dropped 36.9%. Andrea Mitchell’s program saw a 39.7% decrease, and Ari Melber’s show plummeted by 49.6%. Joy Reid’s Reidout experienced a 54.6% fall, while Chris Hayes’ All-in declined by 47.2%. Alex Wagner Tonight dropped by 53.6%, Lawrence O’Donnell’s show fell by 60.6%, and Stephanie Ruhle’s program saw the steepest decline at 67%.
The situation has become so dire that Comcast is considering separating MSNBC and its cable operations for a potential sale. The decline isn’t limited to MSNBC alone – overall cable news election night coverage saw a 25% decrease compared to 2020, indicating that Americans are increasingly turning to alternative news sources, even during major political events.
