In a significant show of support for former President Donald Trump, multiple Somali leaders gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul on Saturday for a news conference. The group, comprising men and women from the Muslim and Somali community, stood behind a podium adorned with a “Trump Make America Great Again 2024” sign.
One speaker, a self-proclaimed lifelong Republican, expressed his admiration for Trump, citing his fighting spirit as the primary reason. He went on to criticize the left, stating that they had abandoned the community. The speaker highlighted concerns about education, revealing alarming statistics about reading and math proficiency among children in third and eighth grades.

The man also addressed economic challenges faced by working and middle-class individuals, emphasizing the difficulty in affording basic necessities. While expressing love for their Democratic counterparts, he urged the community to shift their support to the right and vote for Trump in 2024.
Recent surveys suggest that Trump may be gaining ground in Minnesota, traditionally a blue state. A MinnPost-Embold Research survey showed Trump trailing Harris by a narrow margin of approximately three percentage points. Notably, the survey indicated that independents in Minnesota were leaning towards Trump by a nine-point margin.
This event in Minnesota follows a similar endorsement from Muslim leaders during a recent rally in Novi, Michigan. Imam Belal Alzuhairi stated, “We as Muslims stand with President Trump because he promises peace. He promises peace, not war. We are supporting Donald Trump because he promised to end war in the Middle East and Ukraine. The bloodshed has to stop all over the world, and I think this man can make that happen.”
These developments suggest a growing support for Trump among diverse communities as the 2024 election approaches.
