In a noteworthy gesture, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, with a silver-plated beeper during Fetterman’s recent visit to Israel this week. This gift held symbolic significance, as it served as a reference to the pager bombings carried out in Lebanon the previous year.

Back in September, Israel orchestrated a series of explosive attacks across Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds. These attacks, which involved the placement of small explosives within the batteries of pagers and other devices, resulted in thousands of casualties and claimed the lives of more than two dozen individuals, including two children.

Fetterman’s visit to Israel marked his second trip to the country since assuming office in 2023. Accompanied by his wife, Gisele, he met with Netanyahu and his spouse, Sara, at the prime minister’s office in Jerusalem.

According to a statement released by Netanyahu’s office, “During the warm and friendly meeting, the Prime Minister and his wife thanked Senator Fetterman and his wife for their consistent support of Israel since the outbreak of the war.”

When presenting the gift, Netanyahu remarked, “This is a silver-plated beeper. The real beeper is like one-tenth the weight. It’s nothing, but it changes history.”

Fetterman expressed his appreciation, stating, “When that story broke, I was like, ‘Oh I love it. I love it,’ and now it’s like, thank you for this.”

This gesture by Netanyahu mirrors a previous instance when he gifted former President Donald Trump a golden pager on a golden plaque, inscribed with the message, “To President Donald J. Trump, Our greatest friend and greatest ally. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
