A homeowner in Englewood, Ohio fatally shot an alleged intruder during a confrontation in the early hours of Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when Matthew Culham, 43, was detected making disturbances in the property’s backyard.

A couple residing at the residence contacted emergency services upon hearing the suspicious activity. During the 911 call, the female occupant informed the dispatcher that her boyfriend was obtaining his firearm. The call recording captured three gunshots being fired during the conversation.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene to discover Culham deceased in the yard.

According to Englewood Police Chief Corey Follick, the male resident was investigating the suspicious noises when Culham allegedly rushed toward him.

Follick said, “Most burglars, if they determine that a home is occupied, once they’re detected, they normally flee the area…[but] this subject stayed on their property and confronted the homeowner when he was out double-checking to see what all may have been damaged or stolen from his property or who the person was on his property.”
