A viral video shared on X captured a heartfelt moment aboard a Southwest Airlines flight when a passenger led fellow travelers in singing Lee Greenwood’s iconic “God Bless the USA.” The impromptu performance took place on a flight departing Washington, D.C., following President Donald Trump’s inauguration celebration on January 20.

According to Country Rebel, a veteran sporting a red MAGA hat obtained permission from flight attendants to perform the patriotic anthem over the plane’s intercom system. Fellow passengers joined in the chorus while documenting the moment on their phones.

The footage, initially shared by Old Row’s TikTok account, quickly sparked debate online. While some viewed it as a touching display of patriotism, many commenters expressed different sentiments.

“I’d be singing, ‘God bless this f***ing plane so it doesn’t f***ing crash,’ but what do I know,” an X user wrote. “I came back to Florida from DC after the election. MAGA was so f***ing insufferable on that flight.”

Another commenter mistakenly wrote “Being a patriot is a colt,” presumably meaning “cult,” while a third user suggested the passengers were Trump supporters who had failed to attend the actual inauguration ceremonies.

The song has become closely associated with Trump since he chose it as his entrance music during his 2016 presidential campaign. Greenwood, a vocal Trump supporter, has frequently performed the 1984 hit at Trump-related events throughout 2024.

The anthem experienced a resurgence in popularity in July 2020, climbing to the top spot on Billboard’s digital singles chart decades after its initial release.

“Nearly 10 Years Ago, Donald Trump started using God Bless The USA as his walk out song at every rally and event,” Greenwood reflected on X in November 2024. “Little did I know 40 years ago that my song would play a key part of such a historic presidential campaign. To President Trump and the millions of supporters, Thank You!”
