Cabot’s Voluntary Recall Details
Cabot Creamery initiated a voluntary recall for one lot of its Extra Creamy Premium Butter, Sea Salted variant, after detecting elevated levels of coliform bacteria. This recall comes as a preventive measure, as coliform bacteria presence might suggest potential fecal contamination, although no health incidents have been reported thus far. The recall impacts approximately 1,700 pounds of butter, which were distributed across 189 cases in seven states including Vermont, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The parent company, Agri-Mark, reports that it successfully recovered 99.5% of the affected product before it was sold to consumers, ensuring minimal exposure to the market. Only 17 retail packages, equivalent to 8.5 pounds, actually made it to the shelves, primarily in Vermont, according to the company’s records. The company’s proactive recovery efforts mean most consumers were unlikely to purchase the product.
