Two-time presidential candidate and self-help author Marianne Williamson has announced her intention to run for Democratic National Committee chair, claiming her campaign experience equips her to revitalize the party following its November electoral setbacks.

Through a Substack post, Williamson emphasized that traditional political strategies would prove insufficient against modern MAGA movement. “MAGA is a distinctly 21st-century political movement and it will not be defeated by a 20th-century tool kit,” she wrote. “Data analysis, fundraising, field organizing, and beefed-up technology — while all are important — will not be enough to prepare the way for Democratic victory in 2024 and beyond. That’s why I have decided to run for DNC Chair this year.”

Following her suspended 2020 primary campaign before Iowa’s Democratic caucus, Williamson’s 2024 bid saw her temporarily suspend and then resume her campaign in February.

The current chair, Jaime Harrison, who has served since 2021, is not anticipated to seek another term. Williamson joins a diverse field of candidates including New York state Sen. James Skoufis, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin, former Homeland Security official Nate Snyder, and Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler.

As Republicans prepare to assume control of both Congress and the White House in January, candidates are pledging to transform the party. Williamson stated she would “work to reinvent the party from the inside out” if selected as chair, adding, “If we want a new President in four years, and a new Congress in two, then we must immediately get about the task of creating a new party.”

The DNC will hold its winter meeting in National Harbor, Maryland, on February 1, where elections for party leadership positions will take place. Leading up to this, the committee has scheduled four forums in January for chairperson candidates to present their platforms.
