The Senate is set to vote today on President Trump’s nomination of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for Secretary of Homeland Security.

The crucial vote is scheduled for 11:30 AM Eastern Time.

If confirmed, Noem would succeed Alejandro Mayorkas, whose tenure has been marked by unprecedented illegal immigration and accusations of dishonesty. Noem has pledged to dismantle the CBP One system, which critics argue enables unauthorized entry.

During her Senate committee hearing, Noem stated, “425,000 plus people have criminal convictions, that are here illegally in this country, that our current administration is doing nothing to round them up and get them out of our country. We will be doing that immediately, and that will be the priority.” She emphasized her commitment to securing national borders.

Last Friday witnessed Pete Hegseth’s confirmation as Defense Secretary, though not without controversy. Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins initially opposed advancing his nomination, with Mitch McConnell later joining their opposition. Vice President JD Vance ultimately cast the decisive vote in Hegseth’s favor.

Hegseth joins Marco Rubio and John Ratcliffe as Trump’s confirmed appointees, with Noem potentially becoming the fourth.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has already advanced Noem’s nomination. Her prospects appear promising, as only two Democrats on the fifteen-member committee opposed her advancement to the full Senate vote.

The outcome of this significant vote remains pending.
