Senator Amy Klobuchar expressed her stance against expediting the confirmation process for Donald Trump’s FBI director nominee, Kash Patel, during her appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

When questioned by host Jake Tapper about Republican calls for swift confirmation in light of recent terrorist attacks, Klobuchar emphasized the FBI’s current operational effectiveness.

“We have a very functional FBI right now that is investigating New Orleans, investigating Las Vegas, came out, told the public exactly what was going on. So I don’t believe that to be the case. I believe our job. We just took an oath. I just took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We have a duty to advise and consent. A number of our Republican colleagues in the Senate agree. That’s why we must have an FBI check on Kash Patel and these other nominees for these very serious security positions,” Klobuchar stated.

The Minnesota Democrat further elaborated on the importance of thorough vetting, emphasizing the need for comprehensive background checks and financial disclosure forms. She expressed particular concern about the president-elect’s nomination of several billionaires to key positions, noting the potential for conflicts of interest.

“We must know what their background is. We must see their financial disclosure forms. The president-elect has put in a number of billionaires that could have all kinds of conflicts into these jobs,” she added.
