Rachel Zegler, star of Disney’s “Snow White” remake, faced widespread criticism after celebrating the film’s number one box office position despite its disappointing financial performance.
The 23-year-old actress shared an Instagram post featuring herself in costume, declaring “#1 MOVIE IN THE WORLD!” accompanied by themed emojis. However, her celebration quickly drew scrutiny given the film’s underwhelming debut.
While technically claiming the top spot, the remake’s $43 million domestic opening weekend matched the disappointing performance of Disney’s “Dumbo” (2019). This figure pales in comparison to other Disney remakes, such as “The Little Mermaid” (2023), which generated $95 million in its opening weekend.
I like how the 88-year old hand drawn animation from the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is 1,000 times better than the CGI rendered slop peddled by Disney's workforce of foreign scab animators. pic.twitter.com/9dmeOBVE3t

Industry experts note the film’s performance is particularly concerning given its substantial $270 million production budget. The lackluster opening has led many to predict it could become one of Disney’s biggest financial disappointments.
Social media users quickly challenged Zegler’s celebratory post. “What in the Hunter Biden have you been smoking ?? You have the worst opening in Disney history,” wrote one commenter. Another noted, “A lower score than Dragon Ball evolution the movie in IMDb hahahahahahahahaha.”

Critics pointed out that the film’s number one position came during a slow weekend, with its closest competitor, “Black Bag,” earning just $4.2 million. The remake has also struggled critically, maintaining a mere 44% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
One particularly harsh critic described the film as “a film made by people with cartoon dollar signs for eyes and not even the tiniest glimmer of art in their souls.”
