Dungy pointed to Florida’s upcoming Amendment 4, which would allow for unrestricted late-term abortions if passed. He reminded the NAACP that similar laws already exist in nine other states. “Please don’t distort the facts to make a point,” Dungy tweeted, calling for honesty in the abortion debate.
Trump had referenced a 2019 statement from a Democratic governor who suggested that post-birth decisions regarding a newborn could be made. The NAACP tried to downplay Trump’s point, but Dungy corrected the organization by highlighting the reality of abortion laws in several states.
Dungy clarified his position, stating that his focus was on ensuring that legal facts were presented accurately.
