Trump And Harris Debate Rules Announced By ABC News For Sept. 10

ABC News has released the official rules for the Sept. 10 debate between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The 90-minute debate will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. This will be the first in-person debate between the two candidates.

The debate will have no audience, and microphones will be live only when it’s a candidate’s turn to speak. Trump won a coin toss, allowing him to deliver the final closing statement, while Harris selected the right-side podium. The debate will not feature opening statements, and each candidate will be given two minutes for closing remarks.

During the debate, each candidate will have two minutes to answer questions, with two-minute rebuttals and an additional minute for clarification or follow-up. Candidates are not allowed to bring any props or pre-written notes but will be provided with a pen, paper, and a bottle of water. Staff interaction with candidates during commercial breaks is strictly prohibited.

The debate will be aired live at 9 p.m. ET on ABC News, Disney+, and Hulu. Prior to the debate, ABC will air a pre-debate special at 8 p.m., anchored by top political reporters Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce, and Rachel Scott.

This debate is expected to be a key moment for both candidates, as it offers an opportunity to address the nation directly ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
