President-elect Donald Trump has ignited controversy by questioning whether Democrats legally paid millions for celebrity endorsements during the recent campaign. Taking to Truth Social, he specifically targeted payments allegedly made to high-profile figures including Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Reverend Al Sharpton.
“Are the Democrats allowed to pay $11,000,000, $2,000,000, and $500,000 to get the ENDORSEMENT of Beyoncé, Oprah, and Reverend Al? I don’t think so! Beyoncé didn’t sing, Oprah didn’t do much of anything (she called it ‘expenses’), and Al is just a third rate Con Man. So what is going on here??? Totally against the law, and I have heard there are many others!!!” Trump wrote.

The allegations come in the wake of a New York Times investigation into the Harris campaign’s spending patterns. The report detailed substantial expenditures on celebrity events, including a notable $1 million payment to Winfrey’s production company, while campaign offices in crucial areas struggled with basic necessities.
Field offices in Philadelphia faced particularly challenging conditions, lacking essential supplies and proper furnishings. Campaign workers reportedly resorted to borrowing resources from better-equipped suburban locations or seeking independent funding for basic operational needs.

Despite achieving a record-breaking fundraising quarter exceeding $1 billion, the Harris campaign faced criticism for its resource allocation. An insider revealed concerns about financial mismanagement, stating, “A lot of people appear to have lined their pockets, while Harris neglected to fund some of the core pieces of a solid organizing apparatus.”
The campaign’s financial reserves were nearly depleted by Election Day, leaving minimal support for crucial battleground operations. This situation has prompted increased examination of campaign spending priorities and sparked discussions about the appropriate use of campaign funds for celebrity endorsements.
While no concrete evidence of impropriety has emerged, the controversy continues to raise questions about campaign finance practices and the balance between high-profile endorsements and grassroots campaign efforts.
