Trump must face sentencing for business records case

New York’s highest court rejected former President Donald Trump’s attempt to delay his sentencing in a criminal case involving falsified business records, pushing him closer to Friday’s scheduled hearing with limited legal options remaining.

The decision came through a brief order from a New York Court of Appeals judge, who denied Trump’s legal team’s request for a hearing review.

With state-level appeals exhausted, Trump’s attorneys have elevated their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court, filing an emergency request on Wednesday. This latest legal maneuver follows unsuccessful attempts in New York’s lower courts to postpone the sentencing proceedings overseen by Judge Juan M. Merchan.

The case stems from Trump’s conviction last May, where a jury found him guilty on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records. Throughout the legal proceedings, Trump has maintained his innocence. The sentencing, barring an unlikely intervention from the Supreme Court, remains scheduled for Friday.
