Major developments unfolded Thursday evening when President Donald Trump revealed his choice for U.S. Attorney General, naming former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to the position following Matt Gaetz’s unexpected withdrawal.
“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families.

Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!
For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!”
Gaetz offered his endorsement of the nomination, stating, “Pam Bondi is a stellar selection by President Trump for Attorney General. Pam and I worked closely together when she was Florida’s Attorney General and I chaired Criminal Justice in the state house. She’s a proven litigator, an inspiring leader and a champion for all Americans. She will bring the needed reforms to DOJ.”
The announcement sparked controversy when a 2016 video surfaced showing Bondi’s earlier support for Jeb Bush during the Republican primaries. MAGA supporters expressed their concerns about her past allegiances on various social media platforms.

Donald Trump Jr. quickly defended Bondi’s credentials, tweeting: “In all fairness I think my family and I may have been some of the only people who supported @realDonaldTrump in the 2016 GOP primary. Once he broke through the lies and stereotypes and proved to be a populist leader that all changed. @PamBondi was one of his earliest supporters!”
Bondi’s dedication to Trump’s administration has been evident through her actions, particularly during his first impeachment trial where she challenged the Democrats’ arguments regarding the Biden-Burisma controversy. Her extensive experience as Florida’s Attorney General and consistent support for Trump’s policies make her a strong candidate to lead the Justice Department forward.
