In a Thursday visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that he would impose the death penalty for those found guilty of sex trafficking women and children if he is re-elected. Trump’s comments were made during a campaign event where he outlined his plans to drastically toughen penalties for human smuggling and sex trafficking crimes. “We will impose a 10-year minimum sentence for anyone guilty of human smuggling, a guaranteed life sentence for anyone guilty of child trafficking, and a death penalty for anyone guilty of child or woman sex trafficking,” Trump stated.
The event featured emotional testimonies from families who have lost loved ones to crimes committed by illegal immigrants. The mother of Rachel Morin, allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant in Maryland, tearfully shared her story, expressing her belief that re-electing Trump would prevent similar tragedies.
Trump’s speech also focused on his plans to secure the border, emphasizing a need to stop what he called an “invasion” of illegal immigrants. He promised to launch the largest deportation effort in American history and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her handling of the border crisis.
In addition to targeting sex traffickers, Trump said he would impose the death penalty for major drug dealers, with clear warnings included on immigration documents.
