President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to attend former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral when questioned at his Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve celebration in Florida. When asked about communications with the Carter family, Trump declined to elaborate.
The memorial services for Carter, who passed away at 100 years old on Sunday, will take place across multiple locations in Georgia and Washington D.C., spanning from January 4th to January 9th.

Despite previously criticizing Carter during his campaign, particularly drawing parallels between Carter-era inflation and current economic conditions under President Biden, Trump showed respect following Carter’s passing. On his social media platform, he acknowledged Carter’s dedication to America, stating, “While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for. He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect.”
During the New Year’s Eve event, Trump, dressed in formal attire, briefly addressed various topics with reporters. Regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and potential ceasefire negotiations, he remained noncommittal, simply stating “We’re going to see what happens.” On the subject of Hamas-held hostages, he asserted, “I’ll put it this way: They better let the hostages come back soon.”

When questioned about his New Year’s resolutions, he expressed wishes for universal happiness and well-being.
Later in the evening, Trump addressed the Mar-a-Lago crowd, committing to excellence in his future presidential role.
Meanwhile, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden altered their traditional Virgin Islands holiday plans to attend his niece Missy Owens’ wedding celebration. The ceremony took place in Greenville, Delaware, with the reception following in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
