President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to pursue legal action against a prominent Iowa newspaper, accusing them of interfering in the election process.
During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump addressed questions about his current and planned defamation lawsuits. He emphasized that these legal actions weren’t personal preferences but rather what he viewed as his responsibility.

“I’m doing this not because I want to. I’m doing this because I feel I have an obligation to,” he stated.
Trump specifically targeted the Des Moines Register, expressing his frustration with their polling coverage. “I’m going to be bringing one against the people in Iowa, their newspaper, which had a very, very good pollster who got me right all the time, and then just before the election, she said I was going to lose by 3 or 4 points, and it became the biggest story all over the world because I was going to win Iowa by 20 points … the farmers love me, and I love the farmers.”
The controversy centers around pollster Ann Selzer, who Trump previously accused of election meddling and fraud on his Truth Social platform. Selzer, who recently announced her retirement from conducting the influential Iowa Poll, had released a final survey showing Vice President Kamala Harris leading by 3 points. This prediction proved significantly off-mark, as Trump ultimately secured victory in the traditionally conservative state by almost 14 points, with final results showing 56% to Harris’s 42.7%.

“I think you have to … because they’re very dishonest,” Trump explained regarding the lawsuits. “We need a great media; we need a fair media. It’s very important.”
Beyond the Iowa newspaper, Trump mentioned other ongoing legal battles, including disputes with “60 Minutes” over their editing of a Harris interview, journalist Bob Woodward regarding alleged misquotations and unauthorized tape sales, and the Pulitzer Prize board.
