Former President Trump shared his thoughts on Kamala Harris’s potential run for California governor during a recent OutKick interview with Clay Travis. Trump encouraged Harris to pursue the governorship but emphasized the importance of public engagement.

“Let her run,” Trump, 78, told OutKick’s Clay Travis during an interview Saturday when asked about her future. “I don’t want to be [giving] people advice politically, but one thing she’s gotta start doing is she’s gotta start giving interviews.

“[Former President Joe Biden] — during the COVID thing, he did no interviews, and he got away with it because of COVID.”

Since leaving the White House, Harris, 60, has maintained a low profile while reportedly considering three paths: a 2026 California gubernatorial bid, a 2028 presidential campaign, or serving as a Democratic powerbroker. With Governor Gavin Newsom reaching his term limit, the opportunity for Harris to pursue the governorship has emerged.

Harris’s limited public appearances since January have primarily consisted of select events, such as the recent NAACP Image Awards. Her cautious approach to media engagement during the 2024 campaign drew criticism from Democratic strategists, particularly for avoiding popular platforms like Joe Rogan’s podcast.

In contrast, Trump’s campaign embraced independent media, featuring appearances across various podcasts, guided by input from his son Barron. Vice President JD Vance handled traditional media interactions during the campaign.

Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, later expressed frustration with campaign restrictions on public appearances. “There’s a danger – and I would argue I did it maybe during the campaign – of fighting the last battle instead of the next one,” Walz said, according to the outlet.

“This is a whole different opponent fighting a whole different battle. And all of our past history that tells us how we should have approached this, I don’t think holds true.”

The interview took an unexpected turn when Trump weighed in on a hypothetical match-up between Caitlyn Jenner and Walz, favoring Jenner after she had previously mocked Walz’s comments about masculinity.

Trump reflected on his unprecedented non-consecutive terms, citing increased support across various sectors, including technology. “If you look at the inauguration — look at the people that were there — it was a who’s who of a world that was totally against me the first time,” Trump said. “So a much different presidency. I have much more support.”
