Former President Donald Trump continues to lead in critical battleground states, maintaining his advantage even as Vice President Kamala Harris steps in as the Democratic nominee. According to the latest Emerson College Polling-Hill newspaper survey, Trump retains leads in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, while being tied with Harris in Wisconsin.
The poll indicates that Trump has 49% support in Arizona compared to Harris’ 44%. In Georgia, Trump leads with 48% against Harris’ 46%. Michigan sees Trump at 46% and Harris at 45%, while in Pennsylvania, Trump’s lead is 48% to Harris’ 46%. In Wisconsin, both candidates are neck and neck at 47%.
President Biden’s endorsement of Harris, following his exit from the race, has bolstered her support among younger voters, though it hasn’t significantly shifted the overall standings in these battleground states. The CNN survey also supports this trend, showing Trump ahead nationally with 49% to Harris’ 46%.
Spencer Kimball of Emerson College Polling noted, “Harris has recovered a portion of the vote for the Democrats on the presidential ticket since the fallout after the June 27 debate. Harris’s numbers now reflect similar support levels to those of Biden back in March.”
Harris’ appeal to young voters has grown, with notable increases in support compared to Biden: 16 points in Arizona, 8 in Georgia, 5 in Michigan, 11 in Pennsylvania, and 1 in Wisconsin. However, her overall favorability remains lower than Trump’s, presenting an ongoing challenge for her campaign.
As the campaign progresses, both candidates will likely intensify their efforts to win over undecided voters in these crucial states. The polling data suggests that while Harris has made strides, Trump’s established lead and consistent support in key battlegrounds make for a competitive and closely watched race.
